Affiliate links and how we make money

You should know how we are paid, so here it is.

Basic stores are free because of a Shopify referral

We are a Shopify partner. When you take a store from us and then choose a paid Shopify plan for it, Shopify pays us a commission. It does not change what you pay Shopify. You can choose any plan, monthly or yearly, and we have no say in which.

The referral exists only if you choose a paid plan, and only on plans that count under Shopify’s partner programme. If yours does not count, or you never choose a paid plan, we earn nothing from that store, and your Basic store is still free.

What this means for the advice on this site

We have a reason to want you on Shopify, and you should weigh what we say with that in mind. That is why the fee calculator shows Etsy and Shopify side by side with the same method on both, why it tells you when Etsy is the cheaper choice, and why we say plainly that a new store gets few visitors at first.
